Who are you playing with in 2012?
Coach/ Play for Strokes Softball

Why do you like the game of softball?
I love the friendships I have made over the years. Playing with the same guys allows for us to work hard together as a team and truly have fun. I couldn’t imagine being on a different team year to year.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
The best overall player was Lou Palermo. Best pitcher I ever saw was Don Sacha

What is your nickname in softball?
Woods, Woodsie

Where do you call home?
Baltimore, Md

What do you do for a living?
I am Document Management Specialist for Advance Business Systems. I’ve been there for 15 years.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro ?
No

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I always loved baseball as a kid but got out of it after little league. I Worked during high school and didn’t play. A friend asked me to play a pickup game when I was about 19. That led to playing leagues and then eventually starting my own team. It’s been a great learning experience.

What position do you play?

I used to play 3rd, now I mainly coach, catch, a little first and DH.

What batting grip do you use?

Normal

What ounce bat do you use?

26 or 27

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
I used to do nothing but as I have gotten older I realized that I needed to keep active. I generally use the elliptical and eat healthy.

What is you favorite sports team?
Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore Ravens

What is your favorite sport other than softball?

Baseball

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?

I have a lot. No bats crossed in the dugout, same guy has to do the coin flip if we win, different guy if we lose, stand in the same place if we are doing well.

What is your most memorable softball moment?
There have been 3 core groups of guys in our history. The first group was when we won our first tournament at Nick Olszewski’s Toys for Tots Tournament in 1992. The second group was when we came in 2nd in the ASA D States in Hagerstown in 1996. The 3rd and current group was winning Hooters in 2009 and Fall States in 2010.

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?

I think the best thing that could happen in softball period is if more teams would stay together and keep those teams together, whatever letter that is called. There is way too much ship jumping, forming superstar teams and grass is always greener stuff for me.

What is your favorite non-world Tournament?

Hooters in OC

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
The funniest things generally happen between games at tournaments or while drinking beer afterwards. The funniest thing on the field I have ever seen was actually at a practice. Our left fielder went after a ball, dove for it, hit a puddle and slid head first right out of his shorts. Hysterical.
